RESOLUTION NO. 980227
Approving
an amendment to the Beacon Hill/Longfellow Area Plan, being that part of Kansas
City bounded by the Kansas City Terminal railway tracks on the north, Troost
Avenue on the east, 31st Street on the south and Southwest Trafficway on the
west, modifying the Land Use Plan and Map for an area generally located on the
east side of Harrison Avenue, between 29th Street and 30th Street, to recommend
retail commercial uses instead of low density residential and mixed residential
uses.
WHEREAS,
by Resolution No. 46714 adopted July 15, 1976, the City adopted the Beacon
Hill/Longfellow Area Plan as a guide for development and redevelopment of that
area generally bounded by the Kansas City Terminal railway tracks on the north,
Troost Avenue on the east, 31st Street on the south and Southwest Trafficway on
the west; and
WHEREAS,
said Beacon Hill/Longfellow Area Plan was amended on January 11, 1996, through
the adoption of Resolution No. 951661, was again amended on August 14, 1997,
through the adoption of Resolution No. 970897, and was further amended on
December 22, 1997, through the adoption of Resolution No. 971679; and
WHEREAS,
after further review by the City Development Department it has been deemed
appropriate to amend the Beacon Hill/Longfellow Area Plan as it affects that
area located on the east side of Harrison Avenue, between 29th Street and 30th
Street, by modifying the Proposed Land Use Plan and Map for such area from low
density residential and mixed residential uses to retail commercial uses; and
WHEREAS,
public notice of a hearing before the City Plan Commission was published on
January 5, 1998; and
WHEREAS,
the City Plan Commission considered such amendment to the Proposed Land Use
Plan and Map on February 3, 1998; and
WHEREAS,
after all interested persons were given an opportunity to present testimony,
the City Plan Commission did on February 3, 1998, recommend approval of the
proposed amendment to the Beacon Hill/Longfellow Area Plan; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section
A. That the fourth amendment to the Beacon Hill/Longfellow Area Plan is hereby
approved as to the Proposed Land Use Plan and Map for that area generally
located on the east side of Harrison Avenue, between 29th Street and 30th
Street, by modifying the recommended land uses for the area from low density
residential and mixed residential uses to retail commercial uses. A copy of
said amended Land Use Plan and Map is attached hereto as Exhibit A and made a
part hereof.
Section
B. That before taking any action on the proposed amendment hereinabove, the
Council finds and declares that all public notices and hearings required by law
have been given and had.
