RESOLUTION NO. 931200

Honoring the volunteers serving at the Kansas City Animal Shelter.

WHEREAS, the Animal Control Division of the Neighborhood and Community Services Department is fortunate in having an outstanding corp of volunteers who come to the shelter to assist with the grooming, exercising, and socialization of the shelter animals; and

WHEREAS, these volunteers are responsible, in part, for the high success rate of adoptions of the Kansas City Animal Shelter which, according to the monitoring done by the North Shore Animal League, is second only to Denver, Colorado; and

WHEREAS, many of these volunteers are part of the "Foster Program" wherein they take young animals home, interact with them and provide training until homes can be found for them; and

WHEREAS, these volunteers also contribute money in order to have highly adoptable animals spayed or neutered; and

WHEREAS, these volunteers provide valuable assistance in times of emergency such as the recent floods of the summer of 1993 when volunteers helped to develop a plan for evacuating animals from the Animal Shelter if it was needed; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby express their sincere appreciation to: Joe Miller, Margo Miller, Mike Hamer, Kay Eubank, Sheryl Conard, Julie Rogers, Carole Malone, Bob Lewinsohn, Dawn Gover, Kim Baack, Joe Baack, Beverly Herndon, Pat Mears, Chris Gaughan, Linda Mayo, Denise Duensing, Debbie Duensing, Lucy Theodora, Joyce McDaniel, Nancy Blakely, Mike Blakely, Carol Falkner, Wendy Dowds, Marla Harris, Keresa Hurst, Pam Mock, Kelly Mock, Diane DeLeon, Diane Mooney, Laura Mooney and Danielle DeLeon for their tireless efforts and dedicated service to Kansas City; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony hereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to each volunteer in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council.
