RESOLUTION NO. 970463

 

Expressing the Council's appreciation to James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson for their leadership in support of the street lighting bond issue.

 

WHEREAS, after years of discussion with Kansas City Power & Light Company and 18 months of intense negotiations, the City and Kansas City Power & Light Company reached an agreement for the purchase and upgrade of the street lighting system; and

 

WHEREAS, to implement this large and important infrastructure project the City required new funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the Council chose a general obligation bond issue which could be retired without imposing a tax increase; and

 

WHEREAS, James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson took the lead in presenting the essential facts to the voters and citizens of Kansas City urging community support of the street lighting project; and

 

WHEREAS, the tireless efforts of James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson reflect their devotion to the continued betterment of our community; and

 

WHEREAS, the effectiveness of their efforts is reflected in the agreement of seven of every ten voters to support the street lighting project and its long-term funding through general obligation bonds; and

 

WHEREAS, the efforts of James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson will be seen now and far into the future of the City as the new street lighting system becomes another part of the improvements being made to the quality of life in Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Council, speaking for itself and the citizens of Kansas City, expresses its deep appreciation and gratitude to James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson for their continued devotion to the City evidenced by their effective leadership obtaining citizen approval on April 1, 1997, for the issuance of general obligation bonds to implement the street lighting project; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to James B. Nutter, Sr., Gayle Holliday and Sally Johnson with the heartfelt appreciation of the Mayor and Council.
