RESOLUTION NO. 070420

 

Honoring Chris King on his 38th year of radio broadcasting at the Carter Broadcast Group, KPRS 103.3 FM and KPRT 1590 AM.

 

WHEREAS, during Chris broadcast career, he has served as communication liaison for the Niles Home for Children and the Dr. Martin Luther King Hospital and was instrumental in the formation of the W.E.B. Duboise Learning Center, the Black Archives of Mid-America and the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime; and

 

WHEREAS, Chris has been a three time award recipient from the Boys and Girls Club of America, was recognized for community involvement with the UMMA Chairman Award, has been recognized twice by the Samuel Rodgers Health Center, has been recognized by the Mutual Musicians Foundation and the Elder Statesmen of Kansas City Jazz with the Frank Smith Spirit of Jazz Award, received recognition from the Missouri Division of Employment Security, was awarded twice by the Missouri Department of Mental Health and is a four time recipient of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference award for making the Martin Luther King celebration a reality in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Chris has been awarded the Kansas City Globe 100 Most Influential Award twice and was recognized by the United States Senate and House of Representatives for his work in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, after almost 39 years of consistent dedication to public service, Chris still believes that his most important contribution to the community has been his calling to serve as a deacon in his church; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Chris King on his 38th year of radio broadcasting at the Carter Broadcast Group, KPRS 103.3 FM and KPRT 1590 AM; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Chris King with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for his many contributions to the community over the years.
