COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE NO. 900547

Authorizing a contract with Speights & Runyan for legal services in the trial of a lawsuit for the recovery of asbestos abatement damages at the airports and the expenditure of $400,000.00 previously appropriated in the Kansas City Airports Fund.

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

Section 1. That the city attorney is hereby authorized to

execute a contract with Speights & Runyan, attorneys, to assist the City Attorney through the trial of the lawsuit filed August 12, 1986, to recover the City's damages for asbestos abatement at Kansas City International Airport and Kansas City Downtown Airport. A copy of the contract is on file in the office of the City Clerk.

Section 2. That the Director of Aviation is hereby

authorized to expend $400,000.00 from funds heretofore appropriated to Account 353-00018 K in the Kansas City Airports Fund for services rendered under the contract.

Section 3. That the terms and conditions set forth in the

contract are hereby approved.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise

unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
