RESOLUTION NO. 100708
Commending
the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department and the Kansas City Wizards for
their sponsorship of the Mayor’s 2010 Night Kicks Program.
WHEREAS, the Mayor's Night Kicks
Program is aimed to reach urban immigrant youth through soccer on summer
evenings while building a strong partnership between the City of Kansas City,
Missouri and the Kansas City Wizards; and
WHEREAS, the
Mayor's Night Kicks 2010 is a twenty team world cup style tournament conducted
to serve young men 18-25 years of age with each team carrying a diverse twenty
man roster, with three slots taken by players over the age of 25 to provide
leadership and experience; and
WHEREAS, the first,
second, and two third place teams receive Mayor’s Night Kicks medals and the
winning team’s name goes on the Mayor’s Night Kicks traveling trophy; and
WHEREAS, all
games except the championship game were played at the Kansas City Wizards Swope
Park training complex; the final game between El Padrino and the KC Athletics
was played at Community America Ballpark, after a Wizards versus Revolution
game, with an exciting 3-2 victory to the KC Athletics; and
WHEREAS, the
tournament has proven to be a family affair with many children and youth taking
the field between games and at half time to kick the ball around and shoot
goals; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby commend the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department and
the Kansas City Wizards for their sponsorship of the Mayor’s 2010 Night Kicks
Program; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that copies hereof be furnished to Chris Wyche of the
Kansas City Wizards and Lisa Nichols of the Kansas City Parks and Recreation
Department in token of the Mayor and Council's gratitude for their generosity
and appreciation to all the teams who participated in the event.
