Honoring Greg
Williams and extending to him the appreciation, gratitude and respect for his
work on behalf of Mayor Kay Barnes and the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, Greg
Williams has served as assistant to Mayor Kay Barnes since April 10, 1999, when
the Mayor took office. Before joining the Mayors staff, Greg worked for
NorthStar Marketing Group and managed the Mayor Barnes successful 1999
campaign; and
WHEREAS, Greg
has served as Mayor Barnes legislative liaison to the Missouri General
Assembly, and has worked with elected officials, civic leaders and stakeholders
in the extensive redevelopment of downtown Kansas City. Greg was instrumental
in promoting the Missouri Downtown Economic Stimulus Act (MODESA), which
passed the Missouri General Assembly in 2003, as well as legislation approving
more than $325 billion in state funding for various revitalization projects
including the Power & Light District, H&R Block World Headquarters, and
the IRS Distribution Center, among others. As the Mayors staff contact for Kansas Citys Congressional delegation, Greg Williams helped the City secure more than $150
million in appropriations in the past seven years. Mayor Barnes appointed
approximately 1000 people to boards and commissions during her tenure in
office, and Greg Williams researched, organized and carried out those
appointments; and
WHEREAS,
although it would appear that Greg was all about work, he played, too. He has
been an active participant in the City golf league for several years, and has
parlayed his enjoyment of cycling into more work as a member of the Organizing
Committee for the Tour of Missouri bike race; and
WHEREAS, over
the past eight years, Greg Williams has shown great dedication to his work, and
has pursued it intensely and completely. He has served his City and Mayor
Barnes well; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council do hereby honor Greg Williams and extend to him their appreciation,
gratitude and respect for his work on behalf of Mayor Kay Barnes and the City
of Kansas City, Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Greg Williams with
appropriate recognition and appreciation.
