RESOLUTION NO. 070546

Honoring Greg Williams and extending to him the appreciation, gratitude and respect for his work on behalf of Mayor Kay Barnes and the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Greg Williams has served as assistant to Mayor Kay Barnes since April 10, 1999, when the Mayor took office. Before joining the Mayors staff, Greg worked for NorthStar Marketing Group and managed the Mayor Barnes successful 1999 campaign; and

WHEREAS, Greg has served as Mayor Barnes legislative liaison to the Missouri General Assembly, and has worked with elected officials, civic leaders and stakeholders in the extensive redevelopment of downtown Kansas City. Greg was instrumental in promoting the Missouri Downtown Economic Stimulus Act (MODESA), which passed the Missouri General Assembly in 2003, as well as legislation approving more than $325 billion in state funding for various revitalization projects including the Power & Light District, H&R Block World Headquarters, and the IRS Distribution Center, among others. As the Mayors staff contact for Kansas Citys Congressional delegation, Greg Williams helped the City secure more than $150 million in appropriations in the past seven years. Mayor Barnes appointed approximately 1000 people to boards and commissions during her tenure in office, and Greg Williams researched, organized and carried out those appointments; and

WHEREAS, although it would appear that Greg was all about work, he played, too. He has been an active participant in the City golf league for several years, and has parlayed his enjoyment of cycling into more work as a member of the Organizing Committee for the Tour of Missouri bike race; and

WHEREAS, over the past eight years, Greg Williams has shown great dedication to his work, and has pursued it intensely and completely. He has served his City and Mayor Barnes well; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council do hereby honor Greg Williams and extend to him their appreciation, gratitude and respect for his work on behalf of Mayor Kay Barnes and the City of Kansas City, Missouri; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Greg Williams with appropriate recognition and appreciation.
