RESOLUTION NO. 940348

 

Honoring the Carter Broadcast Group, KPRS Hot 103 JAMZ and KPRT Gospel 1590 for their "Put the Damn Gun Down" anti-crime efforts.

 

WHEREAS, the month of February 1994 marked a tremendous turning point for the Carter Broadcast Group, KPRS Hot 103 JAMZ and KPRT Gospel 1590; and

 

WHEREAS, after nearly 44 years on the air, impacting millions of listeners, the Carter Broadcast Group has committed itself to attack the explosion of crime in Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Michael Carter, President and General Manager, personally recorded a message to "Put the Damn Gun Down" which is heard on both KPRS and KPRT, which has resulted in a spectacular response from Kansas Citians; and

 

WHEREAS, additionally, Hot 103 JAMZ DJ, Tony "G", initiated a stand on negative rap music by refusing to play it on his show. Now joined by the rest of the Hot 103 JAMZ personalities, the Carter Broadcast Group will lead the way in promoting a positive message to our audience and our community; and

 

WHEREAS, the Carter Broadcast Group is planning a gun trade-in program with the support of the Kansas City Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the Mayor and Council strongly support the anti-crime efforts of these organizations and encourage others to help in this long overdue attack on crime; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor the Carter Broadcast Group, KPRS Hot 103 JAMZ and KPRT Gospel 1590 for their innovative "Put the Damn Gun Down" program and visionary efforts to reduce the explosion of violent crime in our community.
