RESOLUTION NO. 090114

 

Congratulating the City of Kansas City, Missouri, on receiving the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certificate for the Bartle Hall Grand Ballroom Project.

 

WHEREAS, on January 5, 2009, the U.S. Green Building Council presented the City of Kansas City, Missouri, with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certificate for the Bartle Hall Grand Ballroom Project; and

 

WHEREAS, this project was led by Oscar McGaskey, Jr., Executive Director of the Department of Convention and Entertainment Centers, and Eric Bosch, Manager of Design and Construction for the Capital Improvements Office; and

 

WHEREAS, the Grand Ballroom obtained LEED certification by incorporating a number of green solutions including skylights, large glass walls with overhangs, sunscreens and operable interior shades to maximize natural daylight in the space; and

 

WHEREAS, the 46,000 square foot ballroom was constructed with environmentally friendly building materials, using 30% less water and 75% of the construction waste was kept out of landfills through recycling; and

 

WHEREAS, the Grand Ballroom is only the fourth LEED certified green building in the bi-state region and was a $150 million project that came in on time and under budget; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the City of Kansas City, Missouri, on receiving the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Certificate for the Bartle Hall Grand Ballroom Project; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Oscar McGaskey, Executive Director, Convention and Entertainment Centers, Eric Bosch, Manager of Design and Construction for the Capital Improvements Office, and Dean Barrett, Deputy Director, Convention and Entertainment Centers with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the excellent job done on this project.
