RESOLUTION NO. 910041

 

Honoring Dr. Charles M. Morris for his twenty years as a full-time employee of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and his nearly forty years as a participant, coach, athletics director and advocate committed to the philosophy and purpose of the NAIA.

WHEREAS, Dr. Charles M. Morris in 1955 began his association with the NAIA serving as the coordinator of athletics and coach of the men's basketball, baseball, track, and tennis teams at David Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Morris joined the NAIA national staff as a full-time employee on June 1, 1969; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Morris has seen the National Office staff grow to more than thirty full-time employees and has attended more than ninety district workshops and affiliated conference meetings; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Morris is widely respected for his active participation in the NAIA and has benefitted countless NAIA staff members with his advice, guidance and example; and

 

WHEREAS, at the NAIA Golden Anniversary Convention, he was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame for meritorious services; and

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Morris retired from employment as the director of membership services for the NAIA on December 31, 1990; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council of Kansas City honor

 

DR. CHARLES M. MORRIS

 

for his twenty years of dedicated service to the NAIA as a full-time employee and his nearly forty years of unselfish service to the NAIA as a participant, coach, athletics director and advocate committed to the philosophy and purpose of the NAIA; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony hereof and that a copy be presented to Dr. Charles M. Morris.
