RESOLUTION NO. 900534

Declaring Friday, October 5, 1990, to be "Kansas City Blades Day" in Kansas City, Missouri, and encouraging area citizens to support the Blades by attending Friday's home opener which marks the return of professional hockey to Kansas City after an eleven year absence.

WHEREAS, this Friday, October 5, 1990, at 7:35 P.M., the Kansas City Blades open their first season of exciting International Hockey League hockey at Kemper Arena, thus marking the return of professional hockey to Kansas City after an eleven year absence; and

WHEREAS, the Blades are owned by Russ and Diane Parker of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and will be coached this season by Doug Soetaert; and

WHEREAS, all citizens and businesses of the metropolitan Kansas City area should be encouraged to join in the excitement and to follow the action by attending the home opener and to further support the team by purchasing season tickets; and

WHEREAS, professional sports are an important factor in the development of a great city and metropolitan area and the Blades' organization and owners are to be commended for their contributions to and substantial investment in the economic growth and well-being of the City as no doubt the exciting action of professional hockey will attract visitors to the City from throughout the region; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby declare Friday, October 5, 1990, to be "KANSAS CITY BLADES DAY" in Kansas City, Missouri, and encourage all citizens from throughout the metropolitan Kansas City area to support the Blades by attending the home opener on that day and by purchasing season tickets and attending all of the home games; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council wish the Blades and Coach Doug Soetaert a most successful and productive season as the team begins its initial season in Kansas City; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to the Blades' organization and to Coach Soetaert and to owners Russ and Diane Parker in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their contributions to the excitement and fun of this great City and as a wish for a successful season.
