RESOLUTION NO. 070635

 

Recognizing the volunteers for their leadership and commitment to the Health Commission and the citizens of Kansas City

 

WHEREAS, Mayor Kay Barnes and the City Council authorized the Kansas City Health Commission on April 19, 2001; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Commission has the responsibility of aiding in the development of prevention and risk reduction strategies, ensuring ongoing systematic modifications, developing and strengthening health policies, resources and infrastructure, in an effort to effectively provide one of the basic human services of good health; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Commission developed a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) and presented this plan to the Mayor and Council in January 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, the Health Commission has charged the Health Planning Committee with oversight for the implementation of the plan; and

 

WHEREAS, CHIP implementation has many community representatives volunteering to serve in leadership and other capacities to work with the Health Commission and other community partners to help implement the plan; and

 

WHEREAS, these community volunteers are working to help ensure a safe and healthy Kansas City as part of CHIP through December 2008, with the following Health Commission priorities and CHIP Health Focus Areas being lead by Kansas City community volunteers: primary prevention, tobacco use, environmental health and safety, mental health and addictive disorders, women's and infant's health, chronic disease secondary prevention, oral health, communicable disease and disaster response; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize these individuals for their leadership and commitment to the Health Commission and the citizens of Kansas City; and

 

Be it further resolved that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy here of be presented to each of these individuals serving as Health Commission volunteers, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council, and citizens of Kansas City for their commitment, leadership, and contributions.
