RESOLUTION NO. 120670

 

Celebrating the hard work showcasing Kansas City for MLB’s 2012 All Star Game.

 

WHEREAS, Kansas City hosted to the 83rd Annual MLB All Star Game and received rave reviews for its effort from MLB officials, visiting guests and most importantly Kansas City, Missouri residents; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes that our bravest and finest went above and beyond to ensure the public’s safety. Special thanks to Gene Shepherd of the EOC, Donna Maize of the KCFD and Rich Lockhart of the KCPD; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the special efforts of the City’s transportation organizations. Special recognition being bestowed upon Mark Huffer of the ATA, Mark VanLoh of the Aviation Department, Bill George of Yellow Cab and Craig Bates of Checker Cab and the Bike KC team; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the time and effort put forward by the Public Works and Neighborhood and Housing Services Departments. Special recognition going to Public Works staff Sherri McIntyre, Bruce Campbell, Marleen Leonce, Michael Shaw; Cookingham-Noll Fellow Nicholas Hawkins; Neighborhood and Housing Services staff John A. Wood, Mike Schumacher and Nate Pare; City Manager’s staff Pat Klein and Kimiko Gilmore; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the amazing effort the Parks and Recreation Department put forward in some of our most cherished venues. Special recognition to Heidi Downer and Mark McHenry; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the hard work of the Conventions and Tourism Departments who worked with necessary partners to complete crucial tasks with special recognition to Oscar McGaskey, Rick Hughes, Alan Carr, Stacy Bartlett and all the relevant staff ; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the amazing talents put forward in the Social Media Command Center. This entirely volunteer organization received over 20 million hits in one day and touched visitors and residents. Special recognition goes to HR Block, Barkley, Kansas City Social Media Club, Joe Cox, Matthew Staub, Aaron Deacon, Aaron Thacker, and Danny Rotert; and

WHEREAS, the Council recognizes the efforts of all the various community organizations that played key and important roles in this effort. Special recognition to O’Neill Marketing and Events Management, Mr. and Mrs. Frank White, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Council, Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, Zoo, Westport CID, Zona Rosa and the Kansas City Restaurant Association, Hotel and Lodging Association of Greater Kansas City and to all the people who supported this effort in any way; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council celebrate and recognize the hard work and effort showcasing Kansas City, Missouri for Major League Baseball’s 2012 All Star Game; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Kimiko Gilmore with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for a job well done.
