RESOLUTION

Requesting that the City Manager
develop a performance management reporting dashboard of certain policing
statistics and data and requesting that the Kansas City
Police Department provide certain relevant information to the City Manager on a
recurring basis.
WHEREAS, the City
Council is committed to developing better community relations between the
Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) and the public; and
WHEREAS, increased
transparency and availability of relevant policing statistics and data is vital
to maintaining strong community-police relations; and
WHEREAS, the City
desires to provide relevant KCPD policing statistics and data that is easily
accessible to the public; and
WHEREAS, in
order to provide transparency, accountability, and the opportunity to
communicate expectations and results to the public the City Council has
directed the City Manager to maintain a public-facing data and performance
management initiative (DataKC); and
WHEREAS, DataKC has
the capacity to create an online dashboard that regularly compiles and tracks
information regarding policing statistics and data for the public to consume;
NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
Section 1. In
accordance with Section 2-87(b) of the Code of Ordinances of Kansas City,
Missouri, the City Council directs the City Manager, in concert with DataKC, to
develop a performance management reporting dashboard of certain policing
statistics and data.
Section 2. The
City Council requests that KCPD provide certain relevant information to the
City Manager on a recurring basis for the performance management reporting
dashboard. In the event KCPD fails to submit the relevant information in
accordance with Section 1 above, that the City Manager is directed to request
the same information monthly by any manner allowed by law.
