RESOLUTION NO. 980890
Supporting the application to the U.S. Department of
Justice for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant.
WHEREAS, the City of Kansas City,
Missouri, as the designated contact entity, desires to submit an application
to the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S. Department of Justice, for the Local
Law Enforcement Block Grant, under the Fiscal Year 1997 Omnibus Appropriations
Act, by Friday, July 31, 1998; and,
WHEREAS, the City has the opportunity to
apply for and receive noncompetitive Federal grant funds in the amount of
$2,723,093.00 to support the City and community crime prevention efforts from
the Bureau of Justice Assistance; and,
WHEREAS, in 1996, the City applied for and
received $2,587,958.00, and in 1997, the City applied for and received
$2,615,667.00 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance pursuant to which the City
entered into cooperative agreements with the Kansas City Police Department, the
Kansas City, Missouri School District and the Jackson County Prosecutors
Office for local law enforcement initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, the new Local Law Enforcement
Block Grant application ties into the Citys initiatives to prevent crime and
create a safer community for the children, enhanced security measures, public
safety, drug prevention programs, and other law enforcement measures; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS
CITY:
That the Mayor and Council do acknowledge
and support this application submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice for
the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant.
