RESOLUTION NO. 140438

 

Recognizing the role of the National Airline History Museum in maintaining the history of aviation in Kansas City and accepting two positions on the board of directors of Save a Connie, Inc.

 

WHEREAS, Save a Connie, Inc. was established in 1986 for the purpose of, among others, restoring, preserving, displaying, and flying a Lockheed Constellation aircraft, and to also add other aircraft to the efforts, to study early commercial aircraft, and to disseminate information about the manufacture, repair and maintenance of antique commercial aircraft; and

 

WHEREAS, Save a Connie, Inc., now operating under the name National Airline History Museum, has been located at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport since its inception; and

 

WHEREAS, more direct involvement of the City with the ongoing operations of the organization is appropriate to more closely align the City’s efforts at the Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport with that of the National Airline History Museum; and

 

WHEREAS, to accomplish that more direct involvement Save a Connie, Inc. has amended its by-laws to reserve a position on the board of directors for a member of the City Council and an employee of the City, each to be appointed by the Mayor; and

 

WHEREAS, the City wishes to formalize its involvement with the National Airline History Museum by participating on the board of directors of Save a Connie, Inc., NOW, THEREFORE

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the City of Kansas City recognizes the appropriateness of more closely working with Save a Connie, Inc., d/b/a/ National Airline History Museum by placing a member of the City Council and an employee of the City on the board of directors of the organization.

 

Section 2. That consistent with §209(a)(3), City Charter, the Mayor will appoint a member of the City Council and an employee of the City to the board of directors of Save a Connie, Inc., d/b/a/ National Airline History Museum.

 

Section 3. That this recognition and affiliation with Save a Connie, Inc., d/b/a/ National Airline History Museum renders the City’s appointees to the board of directors representatives of the City within the meaning of §2-2020(b).
