RESOLUTION NO. 001042
Recognizing and
congratulating the Batty 4 Bats Team from St. Therese School in Parkville upon
taking 1st place in the Bayer/National Science Foundation Award For Community Innovation
at the National Championship Week in Epcot at Walt Disney World.
WHEREAS, the
Batty 4 Bats team, four young teens from St. Therese School recently were named
1st place winners in the Bayer/NSF Award for Community Innovation; and
WHEREAS, the
Batty 4 Bats team was one of ten teams selected from nearly 500 entries
nationwide to compete at this science and technology event. They also
participated in the Christopher Columbus Academy at Epcot that included behind
the scenes workshops, leadership and media training and they took 1st place in
this national competition and received $20,000.00 in U.S. Savings Bonds; and
WHEREAS, these
four young girls conducted extensive research on local bat species and produced
Batty 4 Bats Nites attracting hundreds of local residents to learn more about
the importance of bats in the environment. They also developed a creative
traveling educational trunk called Bats On Wings; and
WHEREAS, the
teams efforts on behalf of bats will not end with this competition. The
students are seeking community funding to purchase materials for their Bats on
Wings traveling trunks; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate the Batty 4 Bats team and their coach, Suzanne
Greenwood, for their achievements and wish them success for their Bats
on Wings; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to St. Therese School and
the Batty 4 Bats team members, Natalie Blackburn, Lisa Fahey, Emily Kahm and
Courtney Torres, and their coach, Suzanne Greenwood, in token of the
appreciation of the Mayor and Council for their award winning efforts.
