Congratulating George Brett on winning the 1990 American
League Batting Championship.

WHEREAS, George Brett, on Wednesday, October 3,
1990, made major league baseball history when he became the first player to win
batting titles in three decades; and
WHEREAS, in a seventh-inning liner to right field
against Cleveland Indians reliever Mauro Gozzo, Brett raised his average to
.329, clinching the 1990 American League Batting Championship; and
WHEREAS, Brett previously won American League
Batting Titles in 1976 and 1980; and
WHEREAS, George Brett's achievement was accomplished
not only by his outstanding skills as a player but also by the support,
encouragement and efforts of his teammates; and
WHEREAS, George Brett's perseverance, determination
and commitment to excellence is a symbol of all that is best in baseball, the
Kansas City Royals and Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby extend hearty
congratulations to George Brett, legendary first baseman of the Kansas City
Royals, on his historic 1990 batting performance; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy
hereof be furnished to him in token of the respect and admiration of the Mayor,
Council and his Kansas City fans.
