RESOLUTION NO. 160028

 

Honoring “The 2016 Greater Kansas City Restaurant Week”, January 15th to January 24th.

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Week is a great opportunity to promote and support local restaurants and entrepreneurs; and

 

WHEREAS, the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association was established in 1916, the founders included key community leaders: George Fowler, Myron Green, Guy Taylor, A.B. Carder and W. J. Holt. In 1919, the group became the National Restaurant Association which is now one of the largest trade organizations in the country; and

 

WHEREAS, in 1974, the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association joined the City’s effort to initiate and pass the existing Convention and Tourism Tax which funded the original construction and continues to support Bartle Hall; and

 

WHEREAS, in partnership with Visit KC, the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association founded KC Restaurant Week which has raised over 1 million dollars for local charities since 2009 and has provided over $200,000.00 in scholarships for culinary students in Missouri and Kansas since 2006 and donated over $40,000.00 in support of the now international recognized Hospitality & Culinary Academy at Johnson County Community College; and

 

WHEREAS, in October of 2015 and in partnership with The KC Originals, the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association organized “Dining for Heroes” in 48 hours and raised over $100,000.00 for the families of the fallen firefighters, Larry Leggio and John Mesh; and

 

WHEREAS, this year will celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the National Restaurant Association, (1916-2016) whose birthplace originated in Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor and congratulate the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to James Eddy, incoming President of the Kansas City Restaurant Association, and Vic Allred, Chairman of the Missouri Restaurant Association and Owner of Jazz, a Louisiana Kitchen in token of the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for many years of dedicated service and of their best wishes for all the years to come.
