RESOLUTION NO. 130413

 

Congratulating Dennis Murphey on being selected to serve on the Steering Committee for the National League of Cities’ Sustainable Cities Institute.

 

WHEREAS, Dennis Murphey is the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s Chief Environmental Officer and has ably represented the City in that capacity since 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, in that role, Dennis has collaboratively championed the City’s desire to implement sustainable practices in all facets of government, including, but not limited to, his efforts in the development of the City’s Climate Protection Plan, in preparing materials highlighting the City’s efforts, developing and implementing major grants from the U.S. Department of Energy and most recently his work to facilitate installing solar energy generating panels on the rooftops of numerous City buildings; and

 

WHEREAS, Dennis is a well-known speaker and presenter, having made presentations to various audiences regarding the City’s progress in integrating sustainability into its corporate culture, stressing positive policy decisions by the Mayor and City Council and highlighting the actions of City staff; and

 

WHEREAS, the National League of Cities’ Sustainable Cities Institute (SCI) provides resources to assist cities in planning for and implementing holistic approaches to community-wide sustainability; and

 

WHEREAS, the SCI Steering Committee will provide guidance on the overall development and mission of the SCI, and its membership includes municipal leaders who support the sustainability goals of cities in a national, regional and local context; and

 

WHEREAS, selection of individuals with Dennis’s abilities to the Steering Committee evidences both the importance of the task that the SCI is undertaking and his efforts to make Kansas City a benchmark for peer cities; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Dennis Murphey on being selected to serve on the Steering Committee for the National League of Cities’ Sustainable Cities Institute; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dennis Murphey with the appreciation of the Mayor and Council for the exceptional job he is doing advancing sustainable practices and environmental stewardship within the City.
