RESOLUTION NO. 141033

 

Honoring the Fairy Princess of the Kansas City Museum for her dedication and inspiration to children throughout Kansas City, Missouri during the holiday season.

 

WHEREAS, the Fairy Princess returns each year to the Kansas City Museum to spread holiday cheer weekends in December, Saturdays, December 6, 13, 20, 10:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m., Sundays, December 7, 14, 21, Noon – 12:00 p.m.; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fairy Princess tradition began in 1935 when Kline’s Department Store first opened its Toyland with the brand new toy department incorporating the latest trends in child development. As an additional incentive to lure modern parents to Kline’s, they presented the Fairy Princess--a child could visit Santa at any department store, but only Kline’s featured the unique Fairy Princess; and

 

WHEREAS, youngsters share their fondest holiday wishes to the Fairy Princess and the beautiful Fairy Princess will do more than listen. Being magical, she waves her wand to make a surprise gift appear for each child; and

 

WHEREAS, the recreation of one of the treasured traditions of downtown Christmas, the Kansas City Museum brought back the Fairy Princess tradition in 1987; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of the Fairy Princess event is to recreate this Kansas City historic event with an air of wonder and excitement and the event is part of local history and something children and adults of today enjoy; and

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City Parks and Recreations Department will continue this tradition and incorporate the Fairy Princess and other events at the Historic Kansas City Museum; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY: 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the Kansas City Museum Fairy Princess and her magical and charismatic charm to children of all ages; and 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Kansas City Museum with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the Fairy Princess’ unwavering commitment to our City.
