RESOLUTION
NO. 180162
Honoring
and recognizing Mark McHenry on the occasion of his election as President of
the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration.
WHEREAS, Mark McHenry was elected in September 2017 as
President of the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration
(AAPRA); and
WHEREAS, Mark is the is first and only director to
lead this organization; and
WHEREAS, AAPRA is an organization of distinguished
practitioners and scholars committed to the advancement of the park and
recreation field; and
WHEREAS, the Academy was established in 1980 to
advance knowledge related to the administration of recreation and parks by
encouraging scholarly efforts and to promote a broader understanding of the
importance of parks and recreation for the public good; and
WHEREAS, members must have served for at least 15
years in a high level of administration in a park and recreation agency, as a
recognized educator in parks and recreation administration, or they must manage
a park and recreation department for an agency with a population of more than
500,000; and
WHEREAS, Mark has served in Kansas City’s Parks and
Recreation Department for 45 years, 15 of which have been in the position of
Director; and
WHEREAS, Mark is an example of the dedication and
excellence of Kansas City’s employees; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Mark on his election and thank him
for his dedication to the people of Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Mark McHenry with the
appreciation of Mayor and Council for success in his leadership position.
