RESOLUTION NO. 010205
Declaring February 27,
2001, as 2001: A Spay Odyssey in KC.
WHEREAS, cats and
dogs give companionship to and share the homes of over 50 million individuals
in the United States; and
WHEREAS, one
unspayed cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 additional cats in seven
years and one unspayed dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 more dogs in
six years; and
WHEREAS, Kansas
City area shelters have to euthanize over 68% of all animals that enter these
shelters, although many of them are healthy and adoptable, simply because there
are not enough good homes; and
WHEREAS, spaying
and neutering cats and dogs has been shown to drastically reduce dog and cat
overpopulation; and
WHEREAS,
veterinarians, humane societies, national and local animal protection
organizations have joined together to advocate the spaying and neutering of
companion animals on Spay Day USA 2001"; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby declare February 27, 2001, as 2001: A Spay Odyssey in KC;
and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy is hereby presented to Kayne Asher and
Annette Griffen with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of
Kansas City for the responsibility of the community to get their animals
neutered or spayed.
