RESOLUTION NO. 060144

 

Recognizing Ronald McDonald House Charities Kansas City for their unwavering dedication in serving thousands of families whose children are receiving care for a serious illness or injury at area Kansas City hospitals or treatment facilities.

 

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities commemorates their twenty-fifth anniversary serving area children and families in the year 2006; and

 

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities mission is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families. They serve more than 1,500 families each year in their Houses. Their Family Room inside The Children's Mercy Hospital provides lodging for over 7,600 families and receives over 33,000 visitors every year who need a place to relax, refresh and regroup, away from the hospital's intense environment; and

 

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald Houses are known around the world as the Houses that Love Built because of the tremendous outpouring of support that makes the Houses possible. The concept of the Ronald McDonald House was founded in 1974 and currently, has a network of 264 Ronald McDonald Houses in 24 countries providing 7,000 rooms per night to families with ill or injured children.

 

WHEREAS, Kansas Citys newest Ronald McDonald House in Longfellow Park is scheduled to open on February 14, 2006 at 25th and Gillham Road. This new House will have 29 guest bedrooms and 12 long-term suites, doubling their current capacity. It will be 258th Ronald McDonald House within the Ronald McDonald House network; and

 

WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities has developed strong partnerships with others that believe in their mission of helping the children and their families, including the City of Kansas City, Missouri, the Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department, and Hallmark. With their support, Ronald McDonald House Charities is able to better serve the thousands of families in need; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Ronald McDonald House Charities Kansas City for their dedication and service to the thousands of families whose children are receiving care for a serious illness or injury; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Ronald McDonald House Charities Kansas City and Staff with the best wishes of the Mayor and Council that those contributions continue far into the future.
