RESOLUTION NO. 160364

 

Honoring Paul Tyler on the occasion of his retirement.

 

WHEREAS, Paul Tyler, Grants Director of the ArtsKC Regional Arts Council officially retires on May 18, 2016, after (14) years of outstanding and meritorious service to enhancing the arts and cultural community in Kansas City, which in turn contributes to the well-being and quality of life for all of the citizens of the Kansas City metropolitan area; and

 

WHEREAS, Paul began his career in the arts right out of college in 1976, working as a stagehand, set builder and dancer at the outdoor historical drama The Lost Colony in Manteo, North Carolina, and his love for the arts led him to a life-long career in the arts that included positions at Virginia Museum Theatre, the Richmond Ballet, TheatreVirginia, the Valentine Museum, and then at the Virginia Commission for the Arts in 1995, as Deputy Director, a position that would prepare him for his key role in the development of ArtsKC - Regional Arts Council and the ArtsKC Fund here in Kansas City, Missouri, and his duties as ArtsKC Grants Director beginning in 2007; and

 

WHEREAS, throughout his 14 years of service to the Kansas City arts and cultural community, Paul has also been an integral link between the artists, craftsmen, musicians, performers, authors, poets, creatives and the arts supporters, arts councils, arts nonprofits and arts appreciators, and has worked hard behind the scenes on numerous efforts, panels, projects and partnerships for Kansas City, including the Collaborative Cultural Audience Development Initiative, the Performing Arts Marketing Group, the PIEA Crossroads Arts Advisory Committee, the development of the ArtsKC Fund, bringing the Creative Capital Professional Development Weekend for artists to KC for 3 years, the launch and growth of Artist INC, the America’s Creative Crossroads campaign, leadership of the Arts Industry Sector Council, and working on two versions of the Arts and Economic Prosperity report in partnership with Americans for the Arts; NOW, THEREFORE


BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Paul as an example to his peers, the artists community, and the City of Kansas City, both in his personal achievements and professional accomplishments; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Paul Tyler with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for his dedication, passion, precision, and a generous spirit.
