RESOLUTION NO. 991209

 

Welcoming James Fraher, Photographer, to Kansas City, Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, James Fraher currently resides near Chicago and began photographing blues musicians in the 1970's. In 1998, Mr. Fraher published a collection of more than 100 black and white duotone photographs and interviews with blues artists in his book, The Blues Is A Feeling, Voices and Visions of African-American Blues Musicians; and

 

WHEREAS, the prestigious Living Blues Magazine: A Journal of the African-American Blues Tradition, published by the University of Mississippi, will feature Kansas City Blues and Jazz artists in their millennium issue, January/February 2000; and

 

WHEREAS, Ramonda Doakes, President of the Board of Directors of the Mutual Musicians Foundation, and James Fraher, invite all Kansas City Blues and Jazz musicians to meet for a group photograph that they hope to include with the article; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby welcome James Fraher to Kansas City and its rich blues and jazz musical heritage; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to James Fraher and Ramonda Doakes in token of the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for their interest and support of Kansas Citys legendary blues and jazz musicians.
