Honoring Rockhurst High
School as it celebrates the 90th anniversary of its founding and declaring
Saturday, November 8, 2003, to be Rockhurst High School Day in Kansas City.
WHEREAS,
Rockhurst High School of Kansas City will celebrate the 90th anniversary of its
founding as a Jesuit secondary preparatory school for young men on Saturday,
November 8, 2003; and
WHEREAS,
Rockhurst High School, founded by Father Michael Dowling, S.J., has graduated
12,256 young men of whom there are 8,343 living, plus seven Honorary Alumni;
and
WHEREAS, the
celebration of 90 years of excellence on November 8th will be called AVE ATQUE
VALE, Hail and Farewell, celebrating the end of the tenure of Father Thomas J.
Pesci, S.J., as President during the last extraordinarily successful 10 years,
the Defining Moment of a capital campaign and the arrival of its new President,
Father Terrence Baum, S.J., NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby honor Rockhurst High School as it celebrates the 90th
anniversary of its founding and declares Saturday, November 8, 2003, to be
Rockhurst High School Day in Kansas City; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Father Thomas J.
Pesci, S.J., in recognition of the thousands of successful graduates Rockhurst
has produced for Kansas City and the world over the last 90 years and of the
Society of Jesus and also congratulate and salute Rockhurst High School and all
its current students and alumni on this significant occasion.
