RESOLUTION NO. 971680

 

Recognizing and congratulating the Regional Police Academy on the occasion of its 100th Graduating Class.

 

WHEREAS, the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department established the Regional Police Academy on March 2, 1970. During the 27 years that have elapsed since the inception of this regional concept, 76 agencies in both Kansas and Missouri have sent officers here to be trained; and

 

WHEREAS, on Friday, December 12, 1997, the Regional Police Academy will graduate its 100th Entrant Officer class. This class consists of twenty entrant officers representing the Kansas City International Airport Police, the Grandview, Missouri Police Department and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department; and

 

WHEREAS, the Regional Police Academy is very different now than it was 27 years ago. The curriculum consists of twenty-five weeks of intense academic and physical training that must meet strict guidelines developed by Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST), in Jefferson City; and

WHEREAS, over the years, the Regional Police Academy has been housed in a number of different locations throughout the metropolitan area. The Academy has been located on Noland Road in Independence, Missouri, at Penn Valley and Pioneer Community Colleges and now at 1328 Agnes; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council congratulate the Regional Police Academy for the successful training of its 100th graduating class and its 27 years of commitment to the proper training of aspiring law enforcement officers; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Joel Lovelady and Melinda Mingori in congratulations for the graduates of the 100th Entrant Officer class.
