On the retirement of Don K. Ewbank.


WHEREAS, Don K. Ewbank is retiring after having served in the Public Works Department for over twenty-three years as Assistant Sidewalk Program Engineer, July 6, 1970 to November 15, 1970, Sidewalk Program Engineer (Civil Engineer III), November 16, 1970 to December 25, 1971, Street Design Engineer, December 26, 1971 to August 18, 1972, Assistant Superintendent of Streets, August 19, 1972 to February 15, 1974, Superintendent of Streets, February 16, 1974 to October 23, 1977, and since October 24, 1977 as Manager of Solid Waste Division; and


WHEREAS, during his tenure as Manager of the Solid Waste Division the City's residential refuse collection service has been nationally recognized as a model for other municipalities for its efficiency and low cost; and


WHEREAS, he has always demonstrated a sense of pride in providing and maintaining consistent excellent standards of service to the residents of Kansas City, Missouri; and


WHEREAS, he has worked with the Waste Minimization Commission to develop a Solid Waste Management Plan to meet state requirements for minimization of refuse buried in landfills and in the development and operation of five recycling drop-off centers; and


WHEREAS, he has exhibited a strong sense of professionalism through his memberships and activity in the American Public Works Association, National Society for Professional Engineers, Solid Waste Association of North America, and National Solid Waste Management Association; and


WHEREAS, it has been a pleasure and a privilege for the members of this body to have known and worked with Don Ewbank; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council hereby express their sincere appreciation, and that of the people of Kansas City to Mr. Don K. Ewbank for his service to the people of Kansas City on the occasion of his retirement from the City service; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that a copy hereof be presented to him in token of the hearty best wishes of the Mayor and Council for a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.
