RESOLUTION NO. 970278

Directing the City Manager to establish design guidelines for properties adjacent to the City's boulevards, avenues and major arterials and recognizing the City's major investment in the construction of new parkways.

WHEREAS, the City is nationally recognized for its parks and boulevard system; and

WHEREAS, many of the City's once proud boulevards and parkways have fallen victim to blighting influences; and

WHEREAS, one of the blighting influences is the lack of attention paid to the design of land uses and development adjacent to the parkways and boulevards; and

WHEREAS, the City, especially the northland, will also be experiencing the construction of new parkways in the near future; and

WHEREAS, to encourage quality development along the parkways and boulevards, it is critical that the City develop design guidelines; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the City Manager is hereby directed to develop design guidelines and land use controls for properties adjacent to the City's boulevards, avenues and major arterials to create attractive park-like entryways into and through the City's neighborhoods.
