RESOLUTION NO. 000001
Recognizing
the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Program.
WHEREAS,
rehabilitation services provided by the Salvation Armys Adult Rehabilitation Center
are designed to address the needs of each individual who is seeking assistance
in dealing with primary and possibly secondary handicaps that effect that
individuals functioning level in society; and
WHEREAS,
the majority of those admitted to the Adult Rehabilitation Center are described
as chemically dependent or substance abusers. Although addiction behaviors may
be the primary problem, secondary problems which are usually symptoms of
addictive behaviors, other mental disorders are also addressed; and
WHEREAS,
the rehabilitation process is seen by many rehabilitation teams as holistic. A
persons physical, psychological and spiritual characteristics are all
considered in terms of the individuals relationship to God, to self, to family
and society; and
WHEREAS,
a lot of work and cooperation from the 15 pastoral care volunteers and the
full- time staff were able to help and follow-up with 322 men who have made
commitments to Christ in the Adult Rehabilitation Center Program during 1999,
and over 500 men have worked through scripture-based materials for Steps 1-4 of
AAs Twelve Steps; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate and thank the leaders and the
volunteers for their support of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation
Centers efforts to provide pastoral care to the program for the participants;
and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Major John
Sullivan, ARC Program Administrator and Mike Hruby, ARC Program Chaplain in
recognition of their outstanding contribution to our community.
