RESOLUTION
NO. 180219
Congratulating the two Platte
County High School (PCHS) music ensembles, Sound Express and the Wind Ensemble,
on their performance at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention
(MMEA) on January 25, 2018.
WHEREAS, the
MMEA is a federated association of The National Association for Music
Education, which includes nearly 80,000 Music Educators dedicated to providing
a comprehensive, well-balanced, sequential, and quality education to every
child in America; and
WHERAS, Platte
County High School’s music ensemble, Sound Express, is an audition ensemble
comprised of 32 students in grades 10-12, directed by Brian von Glahn and the
Wind Ensemble is an audition ensemble comprised of 68 instrumental students
this year, directed by Dr. Jay Jones; and
WHEREAS, this is
the first time two groups from PCHS have been selected to perform in the same
year and of the 172 ensembles that auditioned, only six high school choirs and
eight high school bands were chosen; and
WHEREAS, music
education is an important part of overall education, in that students involved
in music consistently do better in school than those who are not involved in
music; and
WHEREAS,
students who take music in middle school and high school show consistently
higher levels of mathematics proficiency than those who do not and schools with
music programs have higher attendance and graduation rates compared with their
non-music counterparts; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby congratulate the two Platte County High School (PCHS) music
ensembles, Sound Express and the Wind Ensemble, on their impressive performance
at the Missouri Music Educators Association Convention (MMEA) on January 25,
2018; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Sound
Express and the Wind Ensemble of the Platte County High School with the respect
and appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City in
celebration of their success.
