RESOLUTION NO. 001642

 

Honoring Ingels Elementary School for its improved curriculum and higher test scores in the Missouri Assessment Program test.

 

WHEREAS, Ingels Elementary School in the Hickman Mills School District opened its doors for the first time during the 1966-67 school year and was progressive in its architecture; and

 

WHEREAS, Ingels Elementary School was named after a former principal in the district, Harry W. Ingels, and was officially dedicated on November 6, 1966, when School Board President Wendell Johaningsmeir presented the keys to the building to its first principal, Richard J. Henley; and

 

WHEREAS, Ingels Elementary School became a part of the Accelerated Schools Program in 1986-87 and offers programs for parents as well as students; and

 

WHEREAS, Ingels Elementary School has been named as one of 31 National Drug Free Schools for 1992-93; Claudette Scott was named Missouri Teacher of the Year in 1993-94, and in 1999-00 Ingels library received the Greater Kansas City Outstanding Media Program Award; and

 

WHEREAS, Ingels 2000 Missouri Assessment Program test scores rose significantly thanks in part to the new program philosophy which calls for students, teachers, support staff, administrators and community members to work together closely to find strategies to improve academics; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Ingels Elementary School for its improved curriculum and higher test scores in the Missouri Assessment Program test; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Stephanie Trugly, Principal of Ingels Elementary School, with the highest esteem and regard from the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for all the hard work to make Ingels Elementary School one of the top schools in the community.
