RESOLUTION NO. 960219
Urging the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority of
Kansas City, Missouri, to reconsider Resolution No. 384 which accepted the
industrial development contract proposal of Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse
Company for the Central Industrial District Project and, in lieu thereof, to
accept the proposal of Monahan & Associates.
WHEREAS, the Planned Industrial Expansion Authority
of Kansas City, Missouri (PIEA), issued a request for proposals on April 3,
1995, for the redevelopment of a tract of land generally located at 14th Street
and Wyoming Street; and
WHEREAS, two proposals were submitted to PIEA in
response to its request: one from Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse Company and
one from Monahan & Associates; and
WHEREAS, the Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse
Company proposal contemplates the expansion of an existing manufacturing
facility in Kansas City and the retention of 50 jobs with an addition of 24
jobs; and
WHEREAS, the Monahan & Associates owns the
property at 14th and Wyoming Street and their proposal contemplates the
creation of retail shops, restaurants, nightclubs and offices while preserving
two of this City's historic structures; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 100.410(2), RSMo, PIEA
notified the City on July 12, 1995, of its intention to accept the industrial
development contract proposal of Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse Company; and
WHEREAS, the Council believes that the Monahan &
Associates proposal has merit; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby urge the Planned
Industrial Expansion Authority of Kansas City, Missouri, to reconsider
Resolution No. 384, which accepted the industrial development contract proposal
of the Steel Manufacturing and Warehouse Company and, in lieu thereof, urges
the PIEA to accept the proposal of Monahan & Associates.
