RESOLUTION NO. 961115
Honoring and commending Catherine Fox on her outstanding
gold-medal performance at the Centennial Olympic Games.
WHEREAS, Catherine Fox became a gold medalist in
swimming at the Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta, George, USA; and
WHEREAS, classmates at Bishop Miege have watched
Catherine Fox skip teenage outings for years, while she just swam, swam and
swam some more; and
WHEREAS, Fox is a life-long area resident who attended
Notre Dame de Sion through seventh grade, Indian Hills Middle School for eighth
grade and completed her high school education at Bishop Miege High School; and
WHEREAS, Fox, the pride of Kansas City and Roeland
Park and Bishop Miege High School and the Kansas City Blazers, ripped off the
swim of her life; and
WHEREAS, Fox stepped into the third leg of the
Monday night, July 22, 1996, Olympic 4x100 freestyle relay final and helped the
United States kick its way to a gold-medal victory. The U.S. relay won in an
Olympic and American record time of 3 minutes, 39.29 seconds; and
WHEREAS, Catherine Fox has shown herself to know the
value of persistent hard work. She began her competitive swimming career at
the age of eight and steadily developed her skills allowing her to attain her
childhood dream of representing the United States in the Olympics; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby honors and
commends Catherine Fox on her outstanding performance at the Centennial Olympic
Games; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy
hereof be presented to Catherine Fox in appreciation of her outstanding Olympic
performance.
