RESOLUTION NO. 090396

Congratulating the young people from Kansas City who achieved the Presidents Volunteer Service Award and as a result, promoted positive civic engagement, strengthened positive perceptions about youth, and fostered community development.

WHEREAS, the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, issued by the Presidents Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize the best in American spirit, will be awarded to Kansas Citys youth in order to recognize their outstanding achievements in the field of community service; and

WHEREAS, these 46 outstanding young people have broadened the horizons and perspectives of the presently evolving city, with their 7,800 hours of community service; and

WHEREAS, these young people have played a productive role within the entire community with 29 achieving the bronze awards by completing more than 100 community service hours, one young person achieving the silver award with over 175 hours, and 13 dedicated young people reaching the gold award exceeding 250 hours of community service in their communities; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate the young people from Kansas City who achieved the Presidents Volunteer Service Award, and in doing so, promoted positive civic engagement, strengthened positive perceptions about youth, and fostered community development.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to Ryan Allen, Aaliyah Beard, Mia Beeks, Steven Bingham, Helena Davis, Matthew Davis, Juliet Davis, Shawn Edmunds, Brenda Garnica, David Garrett, Stephen Harpe, Mikheala Hill, Rashenna Hill, Rushad Hill, Trent Hodge, Darryl Hollinshed, Shanee Howard, Teanna Hunter, Kaprianie Johnson, Cameron Jones, Wayne Lane, Monique Lawson, Antonio Lawson, Lachandra Lowe, Annitra McDonald, Berenice Olivares, MarShuna Parker, Rodnesha Peques, Jon Powell, Brittany Robinson, Andrew Schofield, DAngela Sims, Dajanae Slaughter, Sarah Smith, Anthony Smith, Urain Spencer, Shane Sullivan, Latia Thomas, Deonte Vandunk, Trevale Vandunk, Vernisha Walker, Jay Walters Jr., Claire West, Marnique West, Michelle Wilson, Ashlee Young, and Xiao Zhou and Thalia Cherry, Youth Advocate, with the appreciation of the Mayor, Council and citizens of Kansas City for the positive influence this Commission will have on the youth of the area.
