Congratulating Dwayne A. Crompton for his dedication to improving the lives of children.

WHEREAS, twenty years ago, Dwayne A. Crompton was named Executive Director of KCMC Child Development Corporation which was a newly-established not-for-profit agency endeavoring to provide for the child care needs of the working poor; and

WHEREAS, during this span of two decades, KCMC has experienced phenomenal growth and now provides administration for Project Head Start in Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties, the federal Child and Adult Care Food Program in 20 western Missouri counties and the private-public sector child care partnership called Full Start; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Crompton and KCMC Child Development Corporation have indeed been a leading force in changing the lives of children and families. Mr. Cromptons expertise is frequently called upon to provide testimony on pending child care legislation at the local, state and federal levels; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Crompton is a nationally recognized authority on childrens issues and serves on many boards and committees, including the Governing Board of the Council for Early Childhood Professional Recognition, the National Association for the Education of Young Children, the Advisory Committee of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation and Affiliated Trusts, the National Black Child Development Institute, its Steering Committee, and the Black Communitys Crusade for Children and its Steering Committee; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Crompton believes that the welfare of the children is enhanced by the vibrancy and strength of their communities and is a former chairman and current secretary of the Rehabilitation Loan Corporation of Kansas City. He is the past president and past treasurer of the Board of Curators at Lincoln University and past president of the Board of Directors of Project Neighborhood and is a current member of the Metropolitan Council on Child Care and currently chairs its Public Information and Public Policy Committee; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council do hereby congratulate Dwayne A. Crompton for his dedication to improving the lives of children; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Dwayne Crompton with the best wishes of the Mayor and Council for his continued service to the youth of this community.
