RESOLUTION NO. 980302

 

Urging the Missouri General Assembly to adopt the Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 1656 and Senate Bill No. 911 to enable the rebuilding and revitalization of distressed communities in Missouri.

 

WHEREAS, the Missouri General Assembly is now considering Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 1656 and Senate Bill No. 911, which would provide tools and incentives to rebuild distressed communities in Missouri, including Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, this Bill would provide tools through current programs and new tax credit incentives to encourage businesses to locate in distressed communities throughout Missouri thus creating new jobs and income to enable such communities to grow and prosper; and

 

WHEREAS, the Bill also provides incentives to provide alternative public transportation services and financing for market rate housing to support such new or expanded businesses within those communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Missouris future depends upon vibrant, viable communities, and this proposed legislation would provide a comprehensive and complete package of tools and incentives which could help to rebuild and revitalize distressed communities; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby urge the members of the Missouri General Assembly to act favorably to adopt Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 1656 and Senate Bill No. 911 which would assist and enable the rebuilding and revitalization of distressed communities in Missouri; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof, and that copies hereof be provided to the members of the General Assembly from the Kansas City Metropolitan Area, to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President Pro Tem of the Senate and the Governor as evidence of the support of the Mayor and Council for this legislation.
