RESOLUTION NO. 070360

 

Honoring Christopher DeShaw for saving the lives of his family from their burning house on August 12, 2006.

 

WHEREAS, around 3:00 a.m. on August 12, 2006, 13 year old Christopher DeShaw smelled smoke and jumped out of bed and ran upstairs to warn his mother and father that their house was on fire; and

 

WHEREAS, after getting his mom and dad up, Christopher ran back downstairs and awakened his brothers, Timothy and Andrew, before helping his father try to put the fire out while waiting for the Fire Department to arrive; and

 

WHEREAS, Christophers mother, not realizing the fire was out of control, was stranded on the second story of the home and without thinking about his own safety, Christopher ran through the blazing fire and escorted his mom and one of their dogs to safety; and

 

WHEREAS, heroes come in many shapes and sizes but on August 12, 2006, they came in the form of a 13 year old boy named Christopher DeShaw who saved his family; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Christopher DeShaw for saving the lives of his family from their burning house on August 12, 2006; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Christopher DeShaw with the congratulations of the Mayor and Council for his heroic effort in saving the lives of his family.
