RESOLUTION NO. 060679
Designating
July, 2006, as National Parks and Recreation Month.
WHEREAS, the Board of Parks and
Recreation Commissioners is pleased to recognize July, 2006 as National
Recreation and Parks month; and,
WHEREAS, the
National Recreation and Park Association brings visibility to quality sports
programs offered by Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, Parks
and Recreation leisure time experiences provide opportunities for young people
to live, grow and develop into contributing members of society; and
WHEREAS, Parks
and Recreation creates lifelines and continues lifelong experiences for older
members of our community; and generates opportunities for citizens to come
together and acknowledge a sense of community through fun-filled recreational
pursuits; and
WHEREAS, Parks
and Recreation agencies provide outlets for physical activities,
socializations, and stress reducing experiences; and
WHEREAS, parks,
playgrounds, ball fields, nature trails, open spaces, community and cultural
centers, and historic sites make a community attractive and a desirable place
to live, work, play, and visit; all of which contribute to our ongoing economic
vitality; and
WHEREAS, parks,
greenways, and open space provide a welcome respite from our fast paced, high
tech lifestyles, while protecting and preserving our natural environment; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED
BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby designate July, 2006, as National Parks and Recreation
Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be
spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy
hereof be presented to Sandra
Aust and the Parks and Recreation Board of Commissioners and Department staff in recognition by the Mayor, Council and citizens
of Kansas City for the services
provided by the Kansas City Parks and
Recreation.
