Honoring
Master Chief Rashaun R. Morris on her rank as Gold Badge Master Chief United
States Coast Guard, 1st District Reserve.
WHEREAS, less than
1% of the entire military workforce obtain the rank of E9 Master Chief and only
six African Americans have ever received the rank Gold Badge Command Master in
the United States Coast Guard. Out of the six; only two females and out of the
two females Master Chief Morris is the only Reserve.
WHEREAS, Master Chief Morris was born in Kansas City,
Missouri and is a distinguished graduate of Central High School, the Coast
Guard Chief’s Academy and the Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leaders Course, and
has one child, Haleigh Morris; and
WHEREAS,
Master Chief Morris enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1987 and upon
completion of Coast Guard Basic Training, she was selected to conduct
ceremonial operations for two U.S. Presidents, world leaders and dignitaries
for the Coast Guard Ceremonial Honor Guard and Silent Drill Team. She has
provided support to thousand over three decades; and
WHEREAS,
after serving over 13 years of active duty, she transitioned into the Coast
Guard Reserves and was mobilized for the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Response
in Mobile, Alabama and for Hurricane Sandy in Boston, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Master Chief Morris assumed the duties as the Reserve Command Master
Chief for the 1st Coast Guard
District in October of 2016 and served as the principle advisor to the District
Commander on all matters affecting work life; and
WHEREAS, Master
Chief Morris’ personal awards include two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, four
Coast Guard Achievement Medals, three Commandant’s Letter of Commendation
Ribbons, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, several Coast Guard Good Conduct
Awards and various other personal and unit awards; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council hereby express their heartfelt and sincere
appreciation for her dedicated military service; and
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the
Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Rashaun R.
Morris as a token of the high esteem in which she is held by the Mayor,
Council, and citizens of Kansas City, Missouri.
