WHEREAS, this accomplishment is the latest entry on Captain Major's exemplary service record which began on May 8, 1982, when he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon his graduation from Oklahoma State University where he was recognized as the school's Distinguished Graduate from Air Force ROTC and the outstanding student in the Mechanical Aerospace Engineering Department; and

WHEREAS, in 1983 he graduated from the select Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training Program at Sheppard Air Force Base at Wichita Falls, Texas, and was immediately assigned to the 41st Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron stationed at McClellan AFB at Sacramento, California, flying the 4-engine turboprop HC-130 modified for the air refueling of helicopters. In less than a year he qualified for the unit's special operations mission, a record for that squadron, and was promoted to First Lieutenant. In 1986 he upgraded to aircraft commander in the minimum time allowed by regulation and was promoted to Captain; and

WHEREAS, Captain Major has been selected to attend numerous specialized training schools operated by the Air Force and has served as an instructor pilot at various locations. He has been awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal and Commendation Medal and has been credited on five occasions, along with his crew, for saving the lives of endangered individuals during specialized air rescue missions; and

WHEREAS, Captain Major, who just last week celebrated the first anniversary of his marriage to Sari Lane, has in just a few short years compiled an exemplary record for outstanding personal performance and service to his country as a proud member of the Air Force team and as such has set an example for others to follow; NOW, THEREFORE,
