COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR ORDINANCE NO. 980686

 

Authorizing the Director of Environmental Management to execute a one-year renewal contract in the amount of $648,500.00 with Laidlaw Waste Systems for landfill disposal of solid waste beginning July 1, 1998.

 

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

Section 1. That the Director of Environmental Management is authorized to execute an $648,500.00 renewal contract effective July 1, 1998, between Kansas City, Missouri, and Laidlaw Waste systems (Kansas City), a Missouri corporation, to receive from Citys work forces, from City contractors and from agents of City contractors, and to incorporate in that certain private sanitary landfill lying generally east of Indiana Avenue and at approximately 83rd Street in Kansas City, Missouri (hereinafter referred to as the Southeast Sanitary Landfill), all solid waste rendered that is acceptable under State regulations.

 

Section 2. That the directors of the following described departments are hereby authorized to expend funds appropriated in the 1998-99 Budget from the following accounts for this purpose:

 

Environmental Management Water Services

99-100-085-2300-B $30,000.00 99-801-080-2010-B $270,000.00

99-801-080-2200-B 3,500.00

Public Works 99-811-080-2040-B 335,000.00

99-206-089-2000-B $10,000.00 99-811-080-2140-B 5,000.00

99-811-080-2301-B 5,000.00

 

Section 3. That the directors of the departments described in Section 2 are hereby authorized to issue changes to the aforesaid contract to provide for additional disposal requirements subject to the limitations of appropriated funds and the City Managers approval.

I hereby certify that there is a balance, otherwise unencumbered, to the credit of the appropriation to which the foregoing expenditure is to be charged, and a cash balance, otherwise unencumbered, in the treasury, to the credit of the fund from which payment is to be made, each sufficient to meet the obligation hereby incurred.
