RESOLUTION
NO. 180279
Recognizing the contributions of
the Blue Hills Neighborhood Association on the occasion of its 20th anniversary
to the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
WHEREAS, the
Blue Hills Neighborhood Association was established and incorporated as a not
for profit 501(c)(3) on April 21, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the
area boundaries are Swope Parkway to the north, 63rd Street to the south,
Prospect on the east, and Paseo Boulevard on the west; and
WHEREAS, the
Blue Hills Neighborhood Association works for social and economic justice, for
rehabilitation and beautification of the area, striving for a safer, more
desirable neighborhood in which to live; and
WHEREAS, since
the vibrant organization was established in 1998 by 10 community leaders: Tom
Adams, Lillian Anderson, Robert Anderson, Jr., Ruby Bronson, JoAnn Ellett,
William D. Hart, Patricia Keeling, Louise Marina, Linda Spence and Nanny
Williams, others have followed their example, working toward their long-term
goals; and
WHEREAS, the
group developed a neighborhood Master Plan, rehabilitated Blue Hills Park,
worked with U.S. Housing and Urban Development to turn blighted and abandoned
buildings into homes now contributing to the tax base, built a community garden
and orchard, planted a Monarch Butterfly Waystation habitat on a vacant lot, is
working with UMKC’s Center for Neighborhoods, Department of Architecture, Urban
Planning + Design to develop community leaders and a mixed income housing
project; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY
THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor
and Council hereby recognize the contributions of the Blue Hills Neighborhood
Association on the occasion of its 20th anniversary to the City of Kansas City,
Missouri; and
BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in
testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to the Blue Hills
Neighborhood Association in token of the Mayor and Council’s thanks for their
tremendous contributions to the betterment of the Blue Hills neighborhood and
the City of Kansas City, Missouri.
