RESOLUTION NO. 130236

 

Honoring Leslie McLendon and declaring the first weekend in April as “Leslie’s Legacy of Love Blood Drive Weekend”.

 

WHEREAS, the Leslie Rene McLendon achieved extensive experience in the coordination and facilitation of urban core outreach programs targeted towards “at-risk” youth, neighborhood empowerment and health awareness to underserved populations; and

 

WHEREAS, Leslie became an active member of the Board of Directors of the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America-Uriel Owens Chapter; and

 

WHEREAS, Leslie was an ambassador, skilled educator and spokesperson, for the Susan G. Komen Health Foundation which allowed low-income persons access to free mammograms and comprehensive breast health; and

 

WHEREAS, Leslie organized neighborhoods through the Walkers on Watch Program to stride for health hearts; and

 

WHEREAS, she was an Outreach Specialist for LeadBusters, where she educated the community on the hazards of lead poisoning and promoted lead prevention programs; and

 

WHEREAS, Leslie was most recently an Outreach Coordinator for the Gift of Smiles Program at the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City; and

 

WHEREAS, Leslie dedicated her life to health awareness and a focus always on helping others, and whose presence in the Kansas City metro area will be greatly missed; and

 

WHEREAS, it is the intention of the McLendon family to honor the legacy of Leslie by continuing the work Leslie began; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby honor Leslie McLendon for all her achievements in the health awareness fields; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof being presented to the family of Leslie McLendon with the Mayor and Council declaring that the first weekend of April, 2013, and subsequent years be declared as “Leslie’s Legacy of Love Blood Drive Weekend”.
