Welcoming a group of exchange students from Montpellier, France, to the United States and Kansas City.


WHEREAS, during the month of October, 1995, a group of fifteen French exchange students from Notre Dame de la Merci in Montpellier, France, are visiting in the Kansas City area; and


WHEREAS, these students are staying with families of Pembroke Hill School students in the Kansas City; and


WHEREAS, accompanying the students from France is their teacher Mr. Didier Girard, and serving as their local guide and chaperon is Madame Ann Miller, French language instructor at Pembroke Hill School; and


WHEREAS, these visiting students, Celine Meyer, Aurelien Griffe, Sebastien Ives, Pascal Grelich, Adeline Segaud-Randon, Aude Moine, Alexandra Sarris, Julien Barbera, Stephanie Solanas, Emilie Guntzeburger, Eric Morin, Pauline Goeminne, Guillaume Labre, Guilhem Carriere, Marie-Laure Grappin, have only a brief period of time in which to sample the lifestyle and hospitality of the citizens of this city and country and to view its many natural and manmade wonders; and


WHEREAS, their visit serves as a reminder of the longstanding friendly ties of the citizens of the United States of America, the "melting pot" nation, to France and all the European nations and illustrates again how all people who share this Planet Earth are truly brothers and sisters with a common wish to live together in peace; NOW, THEREFORE,




That the Mayor and Council hereby welcome to the United States of America and to Kansas City, Missouri, the group of touring exchange students from Montpellier, France, and their traveling companion and teacher Mr. Didier Girard; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Mayor and Council hereby declare each and every one of these visitors to be honorary citizens of Kansas City, Missouri; and


BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council and that copies hereof be presented to each of them and to their local host teacher Madame Ann Miller in token of the respect and esteem in which they are held in the hearts and minds of the Mayor and Council for the seemingly small step they have taken on behalf of all American and French citizens on the road which leads towards assuring world peace.
