Recognizing the contributions made by the
Italian-American Community on the occasion of the celebration of Columbus Day
1990, its nationally recognized holiday, and extending congratulations to the
American Sons of Columbus on the occasion of their annual dinner.

WHEREAS, Americans of Italian ancestry have reason
to be proud of their heritage, dating back to the days of ancient Rome; and
WHEREAS, Americans of Italian ancestry are equally
proud of the culture given the world through such works as the writings of
Dante, the operas of Verdi and Puccini, the inventions of Marconi, and the
voice of Caruso; and
WHEREAS, as one of the first groups of immigrants to
come to the shores of these great United States to help form the melting pot
that is America; Americans of Italian ancestry through their hard work,
dedication to duty, compassion, generosity, and community involvement have
enhanced the quality of life in Kansas City and the entire Metropolitan Area;
and
WHEREAS, the American Sons of Columbus will honor
Danny Johnson and Fanny Ross at their annual dinner on October 6, 1990; NOW,
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That the Mayor and Council recognize the
contributions made by the Italian-American community of Kansas City on the
occasion of the celebration of Columbus Day, named for one of Italy's most
famous sons, Christopher Columbus, and congratulate, applaud and encourage the
Italian-Americans in this community for their past contributions and for those
they will make in the future; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council
hereby extend their best wishes and congratulations to the American Sons of Columbus
on the occasion of their annual dinner and further offer congratulations to
their honorees Danny Johnson and Fanny Ross.
