RESOLUTION NO. 010248

Honoring Jim Browns 50 years of employment with the City of Kansas City, Missouri.

WHEREAS, Jim Brown, Engineering Technician II in the Public Works Department, is celebrating his golden anniversary, having worked for the City for 50 years. Jim began work on February 16, 1951 conducting traffic surveys throughout Kansas City; and

WHEREAS, Jim was soon promoted and took over the task of traffic accident data analysis whereby he compiles information from traffic accident reports to study and improve hazardous streets in the City; and

WHEREAS, Jim has seen numerous changes including numerous city managers, mayors and city council members. He was working in City Hall before the installation of air conditioning and rode elevators before they were automated. He has seen the creation of departments as well as the elimination of departments; and

WHEREAS, Jim is the number one source in the City for traffic accident histories and the placement of the actual state line. His knowledge of the exact location of the state line (the political boundary, not the road) gave him his strangest request when Kansas City, Missouri homicide detectives called him to a murder scene, the state line ran through the middle of a house and they wanted to determine whether the body was in Missouri or Kansas; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

That the Mayor and Council hereby congratulate Jim Brown for his 50 years of employment with the City of Kansas City; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that a copy hereof be presented to Jim Brown in token of the appreciation and respect of the Mayor and Council in celebration of his Golden Anniversary.
