RESOLUTION NO. 011432

 

Recognizing James B. Nutter & Co. and Jim Nutter Sr. on the occasion of their 50th anniversary of providing the Foundation for the American Dream.

 

WHEREAS, James B. Nutter & Co., one of the oldest and largest independently owned mortgage banking companies in the United States, was founded 50 years ago in Kansas City by James B. Nutter Sr.; and

 

WHEREAS, for 50 years James B. Nutter & Co. has provided the foundation for the American Dream, handling more FHA and VA home loans than any other company in Kansas City and finding innovative ways to help people, especially women and minorities, own their own homes; and

 

WHEREAS, Jim Nutter Sr., Jim Nutter Jr. and the Nutter family, company and associates have worked to strengthen Kansas Citys civic fabric on matters both celebrated and mundane, supporting institutions and causes including Childrens Mercy Hospital, Truman Medical Center, the Harry S. Truman Library, the American Red Cross, Rockhurst University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City and its Bloch School of Business and Medical School, the Kansas City Art Institute, the Learning Exchange, Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in October, Science City at Union Station, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Lyric Opera, Folly Theater, the American Royal, the Kansas City Royals, Friends of the Zoo, Historic Kansas City Foundation, Jackson County Historical Society, Westport Historical Society and a new streetlight system; and

 

WHEREAS, even James B. Nutter & Co.s place of business, a Westport neighborhood affectionately known as Nutterville, has been restored and landscaped into a showplace testifying to the Nutter companys pride and affection for Kansas City; NOW, THEREFORE,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:

 

That the Mayor and Council hereby recognize the 50th anniversary of James B. Nutter & Co., in honor and appreciation of the creative and constructive role it has played in the economic and civic life of Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council recognize James B. Nutter & Co. and Jim Nutter Sr. by declaring Friday, October 12, 2001, as Jim Nutter Day in Kansas City; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the Minutes of the Council in testimony thereof and that copies hereof be presented to representatives of James B. Nutter & Co. and Jim Nutter Sr., in appreciation for the important role they play in the community and economy of Kansas City.
