RESOLUTION NO. 980924
Endorsing
the National League of Cities Strategic Plan and core beliefs.
WHEREAS,
the National League of Cities Board of Directors adopted a Strategic Plan on
March 7, 1998, which will guide the organization in the upcoming years; and
WHEREAS,
the Strategic Plan includes a mission statement, a set of core beliefs, and
five key objectives designed to reflect the interests, concerns, and needs of
the cities and state municipal leagues that make up the National League of Cities
family; and
WHEREAS,
the National League of Cities strength and influence come from the more that
135,000 local officials it represents in cities and towns across the country;
and
WHEREAS,
the core beliefs in the plan reflect the values that will guide the National
League of Cities work in the coming years and can serve as a set of shared
values for all cities and state municipal leagues; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE
IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF KANSAS CITY:
That
the Mayor and Council endorse the National League of Cities Strategic Plan and
the core beliefs as adopted on March 7, 1998. The core beliefs are:
Representative, participatory local government.
Local government as the cornerstone of government in
the United States.
The value of public service.
The value of diversity throughout our organization
and our communities.
Municipal authority over municipal uses.
A commitment to the highest ethical standards among
all public officials.
Civility and mutual respect.
Anticipating the needs of communities and developing
strategies to meet those needs and improve the quality of life.
Partnerships, coalitions, and collaborations to
strengthen cities and our advocacy efforts.
